Ding-a-Lings
Handbell Choir
The Bethany United Methodist Church Handbell Choir was begun in 1987 and consists of 13 full-time ringers manipulating five octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and four octaves of Malmark Hand Chimes. The “Ding-a-Lings” are celebrating 36 years of handbell ringing at Bethany. The Bell Choir plays weekly as part of Bethany’s worship service.
The Ding-a-Lings are often accompanied by other instruments including piano, organ, flute, harmonica, trumpet, oboe, and vocals. They have participated in regional and statewide Handbell Workshops and concerts and are a community favorite with their annual Holiday Concert the second Sunday of December. Over the years forty-nine individuals have been a part of the choir; several original members are still active in the group and part-time Ashe County residents participate in the summer.
